Got this story from my trainer here...
Do you know in Germany, if you travelling using autobahns (Germany motor way system), there are actually no speed limit there (for cars and motorcycles only). The advisory speed limit is 130km/h but the average speed usually 150km/h. But still, Malaysia have higher accident rate than Germany.
According to wikipedia: road fatalities per 100000 inhabitant per year table, Malaysia is in 56th place from 181 country listed. While Germany is in 173rd place with just 4.5 death per 100000 inhabitant per year compared to 24.1 death per 100000 inhabitant per year for Malaysia.
My trainer actually had an experience ride a BMW with speed over 200km/h at Germany. He said he doesn't realize the car go too fast until he look out of the window (the suspension of BMW car are really good-and of course, the road too). The driver said,
" we have the best engine in the world, so we have to enjoy it".
And the driver also claim that he never involve in serious accident so far. /nobigdeal So, the phrase "speed can kill" in television advertisement is only a myth.
Furthermore, my trainer said, the speed limit in Malaysia isn't correct. 110km/h is too slow for those who drive in a long journey. He suggest the limit should be increase to 130km/h so that the driver always alert and not sleepy.
However, my opinion before we increase the speed limit of the highway, we must first upgrade the safety feature of our car. Do you know how much air bag in a Germany's car? there is 12 air bags in one car. /shock So, if anything happen, the risk for the driver and passengers to seriously injured are much less. In Malaysia? Just 1Malaysia air bag. /sweat
p/s: "drive a Malaysia's car is like driving a death trap"-a comment from a well known car-related-blog in Malaysia. /blur
"...but MENTALITY does"
