Silence

Too much of it, you may feel awkward. None of it may be disturbing. Yup, it is silence.

For girls,

“ silence is a girl's loudest cry…

…you know she’s really hurt when she starts ignoring you”

Been there. Even though sometime it is not even my fault. But hey, if you can’t handle her at her worst, you don’t deserve her at her best.

In term of friendship,

“ true friendship comes when silence between two peoples are comfortable” – David Gentry

Well, that words from western philosophy, lets take a look at silence from Islam point of view.

from Bukhari,

"It is better to sit alone than in company with the bad; and it is better still to sit with the good than alone. It is better to speak to a seeker of knowledge than to remain silent; but silence is better than idle words"

Imam ash-Shafii said:

I was told: "You keep silence, but they are arguing with you?!"

And I answered: "Words (in this case) are the keys to the door of evil".

He who keeps silence in response to a stupid or ignorant person is worthy of being respected,

Silence preserves dignity and honor.

Don’t you see that lions are silent, but everybody is afraid of them,

Whereas dogs bark all the time and everybody drives them away and throws stones at them.

 

Last but not least, let see a hadith related to the virtues of silence,

"The rank of a man of silence is better than divine service for

sixty years."-The Prophet Muhammad (SAW), as reported by 'Imran bin

Hussain

 

p/s: some people can’t remain silence even though in their sleep (snoring).
